In our School Based Program, volunteers have the opportunity to go back to Elementary School and experience the hot lunches and little desks all over again!
The School-Based Mentoring Program is one of the benchmark programs of BBBS. This program matches an adult volunteer, high school student, or college student with a child in grades K-8. The child and mentor meet for 1 hour a week on school grounds and spend time together eating lunch, working on homework, playing games or just talking; this is a chance for you to go to recess and pretend to be a third grader again.
Participation in the School-Based Mentoring Program offers a positive broad–based intervention approach that focuses on meeting the child’s most basic developmental needs in a safe and nurturing environment. It is easy to do and all in the matter of a lunch break you can help a child to succeed.
In this program, you simply must be 18 years of age, or a junior in High School, with reliable transportation to and from the child’s school. We ask that you be able to make a commitment for the duration of the academic year. All volunteers must pass a series of background screening to include, Child Protective Services, Department of Motor Vehicles, Criminal History Report, and reference check.
