Little Moments add up to Big Magic
Student applicants attending local area High Schools are permitted to be Big Brothers or Big Sisters following very similar screening and orientation processes as part of our High School Bigs Program.
To be eligible, a high school student must:
- Be 16 years of age or older
- Have parental permission
- Complete an interview with Agency staff
- Participate in training for H.S. Bigs
- Have special permissions for travel with other students or leaving their school grounds early to arrive at the “Littles”’ school on time. (Where necessary)
High School “Bigs” meet with their “Littles” weekly at the “Littles”’ school during a non-core curriculum class. As a result of the conflicting school calendars, many High School “Bigs” meet with their “Little’s” at the end of the school day at the respective elementary school. As a result of this, High School “Bigs” are generally allowed to leave their schools approximately 5 -15 minutes early to ensure a sufficient amount of time with their “Little”. These meetings last from 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the school and bus schedules.
